Yagyu Jubei A swordsman from 300 years ago. He was the greatest swordsman
in Japan in his time. When he died, he left his legacy in a lovely eye-patch, which would
one day be passed on to his successor by his servant Koinosuke. Nanohana Jiyu Jiyu is a young girl, class 2-B grade 8, has just moved
to a new home and a new school. She is more commonly called Jubei, a nickname her father made by
adding "bei" to "Jiyu". Just after she starts her new school, a strange looking samurai tells
her she is Yagyu Jubei II, the reincarnation of the legendary swordsman Yagyu Jubei. She does not seem to want
the job, but her new friends keep helping her along as she tries to figure it all out. Nanohana Sai Sai is Jubei's father and also an
author of samurai tales. He often puts off sleep to keep writing and as such, can get very loopy
after finishing a book. He is a very concerned and doting father and Jubei-chan is also very close
to him. Nanohana Makoto Jubei's mother is seen only for a
very short time in the series, and only as part of a memory flashback. Makoto died while
Jubei-chan was still very young from a mis-diagnosed illness. Odago Koinosuke Koinosuke was Yagyu Jubei's attendant 300 years ago. He
has stayed alive so that he can fulfill his master's last wish of giving the lovely eye-patch
to his future successor. Koinosuke delivers the eye-patch to Jubei-chan and becomes her attendant
to keep an eye on her, since she is prone to throwing the eye-patch away. He can keep up with
Jubei-chan, even when she is on her bike, by using a "breathing technique". Ryujoji Shiro Shiro meets Jubei when she gets lost in a forest and is
immediately enraptured by her. He goes to the same school and is in Class 3-C, grade 9.
He is always winning over Bantaro for Jubei-chan's attention. Jubei becomes friends with Shiro
and he seems to truly care about her. But his last name brings up trouble for him. Ryujoji Hajime Hajime is the twin brother of Shiro and the head of the
Ryujoji clan. He is behind all the assassins sent to kill Jubei. "Mama" Mama is Shiro and Hajime's mother. She is the head nurse of
Hontsuru Municipal Hospital and is called on several times to help Jubei-chan and her friends.
Ryujoji Daigo Daigo was the last person to duel Yagyu Jubei and failed. <<back to top Ryujoji Swordsmen They are assassins sent by Ryujoji Hajime to defeat
Yagyu Jubei. See the "ryujoji clan" section for more info. Tsumura Mikage One of the Ryujoji assassins. She bears a remarkable resemblance to Nanohana Makoto, Jubei-chan's mother who had passed away. Sai, Jubei-chan's father, claims to know that she is not really his wife, but falls in love with her anyway. <<back to top Sanbonmatsu Bantaro Bantaro is the leader of the Ruffians, a harmless
school "gang". Although he is the boss, he is still rather clueless. He can be brave when he
needs to be, and also really cares about Jubei-chan. Amusingly, he is the last person to find out
about Jubei-chan's secret identity as Yagyu Jubei II. Oozaru He is a member of the school gang, The Ruffians. He and Kozaru
manage to help Jubei-chan and their leader Bantaro many times. Kozaru He is a member of the school gang, The Ruffians. He and Oozaru
manage to help Jubei-chan and their leader Bantaro many times. Shoko Maruyama (Maro) Known as Maro-chan to her friends, she starts the
New Student Lovelies with Jubei-chan and another new student, Saichi. She is very energetic and
has a thing for older men >.> She wants her new friends to go to a dessert shop with her, but
Jubei-chan is always having to leave for one reason or another. Toyama Saichi Saichi is also a new student and is friends with Maro and
Jubei-chan. She is rather quiet and reserved and can speak Portuguese. She eventually starts
dating Kozaru. Shirohatamaru Otome Very little is known about Otome other than she
always wants to get Shiro's attention and attends Shirahata Friendship High Daicho One of Otome's friends. She does very little other than
encourage Otome in her quest for Shiro's heart. Kocho One of Otome's friends. She eventually begins dating Oozaru, but
other than that, does little more than encourage Otome in her quest for Shiro's heart. | |||
