(present) Nanohana Jiyu is starting her at her new school. She gets lost in a bamboo forest on the way there and meets Ryujoji Shiro, who goes to the same school and befriends her. Jiyu also makes friends with Maro and Saichi who are new students as well. SHe tells them her father calls her "Jubei (Jiyu+bei)" as a nickname so they should too. Although she doesn't meet them outright, a "gang" (they're harmless) called the Ruffians sees her and their leader, Bantaro, falls in love with her. She gets lost yet again on her way home and this time finds her father asleep in the bamboo. A strange samurai named Koinosuke approaches her and hands her the "lovely eye-patch" claiming that she is the reincarnation of Yagyu Jubei. She agrees to try it on just once and the image of Yagyu Jubei appears around her. Then, her school teacher, Ozura-sensei, appears with a sword and challenges "Yagyu Jubei" to a duel. Koinosuke once again puts the lovely eye-patch on Jiyu and she transforms into the legendary swordsman. Her teacher, a ryujoji swordsman, comes to later and decides he should give up the sword and become a singer.
